The Valentine reception for Dorothy was an overwhelming success with 60 persons attending during the event. We had a lovely display of Dorothy’s wall art and a beautiful table display of her innovative crafts. She has created all sorts of attractive home and garden items including bird houses, marbleized shelves, decorated coat hooks. Her works are generally made of wood and she designs all of her own patterns and does the original wood work too. Her wall art work is usually done in oils (water base) and they are realistic but not photo style rather they have a softer quality and are tranquil to look at. Her works are generally medium to large in size and include landscapes and some wonderful wildlife as well as fun and familiar things like chickens and dogs.
Wines of the Neighborhood featured a wonderful selection of reds and whites, especially selected by our resident wine specialist, Leroy Schoot, to accompany chocolates. The appetizers were plentiful and everyone found something to their liking so plates were pretty full. The desserts included luscious dark chocolate brownies and Dorothy had a very special cake made for this event.
Everyone was impressed by the hand made chocolate truffles that the Gallery has for sale. They are made by the Wind River Chocolates Company out of nearby White Salmon, Washington. Paper crafter, Cindy Bluemel, made some very special boxes out of art papers to show them off. We also had some Valentine cards made by Dorothy to make a complete Valentine gift for your sweetie.
All things considered this was the most successful 2nd Thursday event we have ever had. There was a flurry of gift buying and cards were flying out as people saw the great variety of cards we have in the gallery. The music was created by Glenda Baxter who does many of the compositions playing on the guitar and she has a glorious voice. A very enjoyable evening for everyone.
Next month, the March 11 reception the Golden Art Gallery will feature the scratch board works of Joan Crice.
