The student show held in the art gallery during the month of April shows how much talent there is right at home in Goldendale. The Middle School Rocket Club had an amazing display of their working rockets. Jim Walter, their official photographer, captured some of the action at blast off time showing how powerful these little missals are. It’s a wonderful way to learn about rockets and how they work. makes this editor wish we had such a class in school, great hands on learning.
Other students exhibited wonderful talent and drawing skills in a variety of media. Running salmon swim around two walls in a variety of imaginative colors, almost as if they were swimming fast and hard upstream in a race for reproduction.
Other students show great skill in drawing portraits of themselves using a variety of media. An amazing feat considering the difficulty in achieving a good likeness. Yet one has the impression that this is really what they look like.
Younger children were guided to choose a specific color and tell about how they identify with that color. an amazing variety of answers resulted in pictures that tell the tale of thoughts about how a color might represent them.
Truly art can help youngsters to express themselves and serves as an excellent learning tool. Never under estimate the power of artistic expression.
This particular 2nd Thursday we chose to have a root beer tasting which was fun and went along well with the appetizers served. While that was going on we invited artists and anyone else who wanted to participate to create artist cards for trading. They were not for sale just for trade and their was a lot of interest in creating a card with the supplies provided by Art Frames owner, Cindy Bluemel. An interest was shown by quite a few so it has been decided we may very well try this again at a future time. Next month we will feature the photography of Jim Walter and Jeanne Morgan in a show called Sky and Water.
We will have our usual wine tasting with Wines Of The Neighborhood by Leroy Schoot. Naturally we will have lots of goodies to munch on as you sip on the fruits of the vine.
