Alway a fun Fair for residents and neighbors. This fair retains all the elements of the older style county fairs with displays, vendors and rodeo, all for $7. The fine Ats Dept entries were down quite a bit but made for a better display. I was able to have screen dividers on both sides which made it much nicer and increased the footage to 18 feet across. Our judge was Cathleen Reyfield, an artist from Hood River, OR. The way I have set this Department up is to have a corner for the children to draw and paint using stencils for the subject and then create a background with water colors. I also run a People’s Choice contest where anyone can vote for their favorite youth picture and their favorite adult picture. This helps to get people really looking at the art and making their subjective choices. If they hesitate and don’t know what to base that choice on I just say which one would you hang in your house . This seems to alleviate the minor stress they may feel and makes it easier. This is good advertising for the Golden Art Gallery which I do mention, some people are not that close by and it gives them an opportunity to see our current Native American show.
Lot’s of work and many thanks are due to my artist friends who helped with registration, judging, and worked with the youngsters painting. I was really happy to have extra help when it came to dismantling the show and giving art back to those who had entered.
